World Apart

I can’t let you go,

I watch in pain,

As you board the train,

Tears rolling down my face,

Maybe the timing was not right.

We were world apart,

My parents wouldn’t approve,

Of our love,

I had a fiancé waiting for me,

Maybe the timing was not right.

I bid you goodbye,

Knowing it was the last time,

I wished you would see my heart,

Elope with me to a strange land,

Maybe the timing was not right.

The emptiness in my heart,

When I know I have lost you,

All because of religion,

You are my soulmate,

But I will stick to the wrong man,

Trying to convince myself,

Maybe the timing was not right.
