Tough Love

I know it was tough Mama,

Waking up to seven children,

Running about in the house,

Knocking off everything as they passed by,

All demanding for your attention,

Speaking at the same time,

“I want this!”

“I am hungry”

“I can’t find my shoes.”

I know it was tough Mama,

Trying to show love to all of them,

Ensuring no one was left out,

Thriving to organize,

Seven birthdays in a year,

Yet your own birthday,

Was long buried,

But with a smile you were glad,

They were growing up.

I know it was tough Mama,

Knowing everyone’s preferences,

It was like studying for a degree,

Just to make all your kids happy,

By cooking all their best meals,

During the special occasions,

How you could be absorbed,

In your cooking book,

Training as a chef.

I know it was tough Mama,

Waking up in the middle of the night,

To ensure all your kids were fine,

Covering them up again,

Watching out for any fever,

Some nights you had to rush to the hospital,

You would say to others,

“She will be alright.”

Not sure of the events.

I know it was tough Mama,

Going to work,

Being successful,

Being the best wife,

Being the best mother,

How you would get on your knees,

And pray for your kids,

Crying to the Lord to bless them,

And indeed they were blessed.

I know it was tough Mama,

Doing all these without expecting,

Anything in return,

You taught your kids well,

They turned out great,

We will always love you Mama,

For being therefor us,

For believing in us,

For you are the best!
